Depression can leave us feeling in a fog. When we suffer from depression, our brains trick us into believing that we are alone, even in a room full of people. When left untreated, depression can be debilitating and can even lead to suicide. For years, I have been helping adults, children, and teenagers in Gloucester Township and throughout South Jersey suffering from depression. Depression can look different on everyone. Symptoms can include:
- sleep disturbances
- feelings of hopeless
- thoughts of suicide
- mood swings
- loss of appetite
- excessive fatigue
My goal in counseling is to help patients gain control over their symptoms and fight back against the depression. In addition to symptom management, my therapy sessions include cognitive therapy, which includes looking at the thought processes that lead to the depression and trying to reframe those thoughts. Throughout the counseling process, I work with patients develop awareness on what triggers their depressive symptoms and develop strategies to work through the triggers. I also provide mindfulness and relaxation skills throughout the course of treatment.
