PTSD and Trauma Therapy

Understanding Trauma and PTSD

Word cloud with various terms associated with trauma therapy, trauma, and PTSD. Words like flashbacks, nightmares, shame, insomnia, and emotional distance.
Part of my approach in trauma therapy is to work with my clients to relinquish the guilt and shame around their trauma.

My approach to trauma therapy is informed by my understanding that being a witness to or a victim of trauma or abuse can shatter our world as we know it, leaving us feeling confused about how to move forward. The flashbacks can create feelings of hopelessness and despair. Long-term effects of trauma can include difficultly with relationships, engagement in self-destructive behaviors such as self-harm or substance abuse, and an overall lack of fulfillment in life. My goal in working with victims or witnesses to trauma is to help them make sense of the experience, process the emotions that arise as a result of the experience, and find ways to thrive and enjoy their lives and relationships with others.

PTSD and Trauma Therapy Approach

As a psychotherapist working in Blackwood, NJ with experience in trauma and PTSD, I have counseled survivors of rape and sexual assault, emotional abuse, physical abuse, and domestic violence. My treatment methods include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). My goal is for my patients in their trauma therapy is to relinquish that shame and guilt that often surround trauma. It is my hope for my patients that through the counseling process, they will become empowered and feel less like victims of trauma and more like survivors!
